of Annie Ernaux
translated by Marília Garcia
First published in 1992, Simple Passion recounts an experience of absolute rapture when Annie Ernaux, a divorced mother of two, falls in love with a married, foreign man. In its brief pages, the novel tells of the author’s state of enchantment with her lover – whom she refers to as A. – and investigates the consequences of this event on the perception of time and on the act of writing itself.
